Project: Swiss cheese.
It’s finaly time, recreating a Mobaco model on my own. After visiting the real Dom Tower in Utrecht, we bought a puzzle version for our kids…

That’s a nice start, understanding the properties of the church, at least, that is what I was expecting..
Dom Tower – Top section
There are different options generating the Dom Tower based on Mobaco dimensions. Let’s start with the 8 faced tower top. It needs an octagonal base plate.

There are 2 methods, connecting these 45 degrees angled walls:
- Using the opposite grooves of a column
- Using 2 adjacent grooves of a column
It turns out, using the opposite grooves, works best. Walls are less prown to fall out of the construction.
Dom Tower – all sections
Although the height is not right, it’s all about alinging the 3 sections of the tower together. This could also be done in multiple ways:

- Option A:
- 1st section: 4×4 base plate
- 2nd section: 3×3 base plate
- 3th section: Octagonal base plate, columns inline with 2nd section.
- Option B:
- 1st section: 4×4 base plate
- 2nd section: special 2.5 x 2.5 base plate
- 3th section: Octagonal base plate
I like option B most: it allows to add a fences on top of each sections, while starting a next section. Despite of the large slits in 2nd section, maybe these could be filled with smaller walls.
Dom Church
Also here are different options possible:

The back side of the church is basically half of a twelve-sided structure (Dodecagon).
At the 2nd section, there are again different options:
- Half of sixed-sided structure, using standard Mobaco pannels
- Half of twelve-sided structure, requires custom pannels.
I’ll stick to the sixed-sided version, only changing floor pannels.
Bigger build
Let’s see how far I’m able to create a full scalled version. Well not so far, since the amount of my Mobaco collection is limited:

At least, it starts to be something simular…
Back to LeoCAD
Okay, let’s build the complete tower in LeoCAD. There I have plenty of space and unlimited amount of parts to build with.

For the 2nd section of the tower, I went back to a “2 3/4th x 2 3/4th” base plate. Enabling 1 standard plate in the center and 3/4th wall pannels on both sides.
Frend Caspar became inspired and was digging up old drawings. It seems that the puzzle is not fully representing the real dimensions. So he created an other scalled model of the Dom Tower, Church and the beautiful monastery garden: Pandhof.

Caspar wend for a double walled 1st tower section, those arches looking great.

Both Dom-models could be found inside the Mobaco library on: Cults3D.
